Brief compendium on stress management in the medical profession.

Staff doctors, nurses or orderlies suffer from stress more frequently than staff in other service professions. This is at any rate the case according to the 2002 German Employee Medical Insurance Fund (Deutsche Angestellten Krankenkasse) Health Report. This shows that in the medical professions the number of days of absenteeism due to psychological illness, for example, is 57 % higher than average. Assumed cause: The daily contact with people in suffering leads more quickly to burnout.
