Dimension 1: The Design
The RM Pressfit Cups continue to carry on the successful concepts of elasticity and of particle coating used in the isoelastic RM Classic cup. With a mean survival rate of 94.4 % after 20 years1 the RM Classic Cup ranks among the most successful acetabular cups in the world.
Elliptical design with flattened pole
The elliptical design and the slight polar flattening permit a secure placement of the cup into the acetabulum. The flattened pole prevents a force transmission to the thinnest point of the acetabulum.
- Only a few instruments and operating steps are required to implant the RM Pressfit cup.
- The RM Pressfit cup is also perfectly suitable for minimal invasive surgery using special designed MIS instruments.

The RM Pressfit Cup is a monoblock implant made of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) or vitamin E stabilized highly cross linked polyethylene (vitamys®). The elasticity modulus of the material (1'000 N/mm2 for UHMW-PE and 800 N/mm2 for vitamys®) is very similar to the characteristics of bone structure. RM Pressfit cups are therefore able to adapt to the micro deformation of the pelvis leading to optimal osseointegration and load transfer between implant and bone.
Large stock of polyethylene
The monoblock design of the RM Pressfit cup offers an extraordinary high polyethylene thickness leading to very low contact stresses. The result: low wear rates and a long lasting implant.
Single pure titanium particles (TiCP) are anchored in the polyethylene surface with no bond to each other. A number of studies1, 2, showed the advantages of this technology. The coating is clinically well proven in the RM Classic cup and offers improved biocompatibility resulting in a direct contact with bone.
Dimension 3: The variety of articulations
vitamys® is the patented vitamin E stabilized highly cross linked polyethylene (HXLPE) – the newest innovation of Mathys. Thus the wear resistance and the mechanical qualities are improved.
The technology of vitamys® offers a wear resistant HXLPE articulation also for bigger head diameters (36 mm). In combination with ceramys® – our alumina toughened zirconia ceramic head – the RM Pressfit vitamys® cup is a more forgiving alternative to hard/hard bearings also for young and active patients.
