The new generation of a proven system
The hand plays an important part in our daily lives. But degenerative or traumatic impairments and rheumatic changes can strongly reduce the function of the hand.
History
A decisive consideration in the developing of the RM finger prosthesis was to reproduce the natural joint function as nearly possible. The results of more than 40 years show that we reached this objective. The first RM finger prosthesis implanted worldwide, on 23 June 1970, was an interphalangeal joint of the thumb.
Biomechanical concept
The cementless finger joint prosthesis should enable a near normal reconstruction of the natural function of the operated finger joint.
The RM finger prosthesis has a separable, form-fit joint with a distal/proximal play of 0.7 mm, a lateral excursion of 10°, and a rotation of up to 6°. This configuration ensures the optimal functional requirements of the finger joint.
Indications
- Chronic polyarthritis
- Posttraumatic conditions.
Materials
The joint components are made of PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) and the expansion screws of titanium.
Coating
The distal and proximal joint components are coated with titanium. A new coating method makes it possible to fix a perfectly adhering pure titanium layer to the surface, which improves the osteointegration.
