«stellaris – The clinical results are very satisfying»

By: Dr. Ernesto Maturana Bascopé

The stellaris cone stem is designed for cementless fixation in the proximal femur in routine cases, but can also be used in more complex cases with bone deficiency. In Chile, the stem has been in use since august 2010. Dr Ernesto Maturana Bascopé, clinical lead at the institute of Occupational Safety, talks to us about his experiences.

There are different types of cementless stems that use various anchoring systems available on the market. What do you feel are the advantages and limitations of the cone «philosophy»?
There are without doubt a great many different types of stems, with various anchoring systems. Some of them are metaphyseal, such as the Spotorno model, some are diaphyseal such as the Wagner model for revision surgery and some are metaphyseal-diaphyseal, such as the Zweymüller model.
