Burn-out amongst doctors: «People are not machines»

By: Professor Siegrist

Many doctors suffer from burn-out as a result of high level of commitment and extremely demanding work, together with long working hours and authoritarian structures in hospitals.

A culture of recognition and appreciation can improve this situation.

The burn-out concept means that people who deal with other people as part of their everyday working lives, and who display a particularly high level of commitment, at some point become exhausted with regard to their ability to perform.
