Three questions for: Dr Saager
Today we’re interviewing Dr Christoph Saager, Swiss Medical Association specialist in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system.

Interview
In your opinion, how has the Mathys bonepreservation system proven itself?
I switched to the bonepreservation system from Mathys a decade ago, but I started implanting hip joints using a minimally invasive approach back in 2004. The optimys stem made the operation much safer and easier with a conservative approach. My follow-ups show a good remodelling around the RM cup and no stress shielding in the area of the implant, and issues such as postoperative pain in the upper femoral area have become a rarity in the clinical course. These encouraging results in the registers demonstrate that the selection of this implant proves successful.
From your perspective, what are the benefits of a collaboration with Mathys?
I highly appreciate my collaboration with Mathys and have observed excellent reliability in all areas. I’ve found the field staff’s wealth of experience especially valuable, as they see many operations performed by other colleagues and lots of complex cases and therefore often also have helpful ideas and information about how you can approach complicated cases.
Considering the trends and advances in endoprosthetics, what major developments do you see coming soon?
I think a great deal of progress has already been accomplished by the current implants in the hip field, but the knee joint prosthetic field could still strive for more progress.
