In early October, Mathys launched a Europe-wide training roadshow for its new EMPOWR 3D Knee System with the help of three world-renowned clinical experts. The tour kicked off in Paris, with the second event taking place in Basel – further dates will follow in 2023. Participants enjoyed an intensive programme, sharing their knowledge and experiences during practical workshops.
Improving together
The aim of this training programme is to give surgeons across Europe the opportunity to familiarise themselves with and practice using the EMPOWR 3D Knee System. The launch events were hosted by Matt Trerotola, CEO of Enovis, Brady Shirley, COO of Enovis, and Benjamin Reinmann, President of Mathys, and attended by 18 European surgeons from seven countries.
The two-day event began with Professor Scott Banks, University of Florida, talking about the basics of biomechanics and demonstrating the anatomical structures that play a role in the kinematics of the knee. Based on this, our expert went on to describe the idea behind the EMPOWR 3D knee prothesis and explained why the dual pivot design simulates natural knee kinetics so effectively.
«The biomechanical concept is the most important aspect for a surgeon, so it was great that this event focused on that,” said one participant».
Professor James Browne, University of Virginia, then recounted his clinical experiences and what convinced him to switch to the EMPOWR 3D Knee System. Dr R. Michael Meneghini, Indiana University School of Medicine, highlighted the reasoning using a summary of the key findings from scientific literature. Afterwards, participants were able to discuss specific cases with the experts in small groups and share their experiences.
«The event was extremely useful for me, as it provided a better understanding of the concept and technical details of the EMPOWR 3D Knee System», said another participant.
Day two focused on the practical application of the system during a dissection. Attendees were split into two groups and firstly gained in-depth insights into the kinematics of the EMPOWR 3D knee prothesis. Secondly, they practiced the very specific surgical steps for using the EMPOWR 3D System, guided by our experts
